Summer course in English

Place:

Centrum Česká Kanada, 378 62 Kunžak – Struhy 53, okres  Jindřichův Hradec, South Bohemia

Price: 

4 900,- CZK (accommodation, 3 meals daily, teaching + materials)

Teachers:

Michaela Čaňková , CR (trained by the British Council, teaching language, methodology and culture for teachers in the CR and abroad, author of several textbooks)
Michael O´Shea, Ireland (living and teaching in the CR, author of The Story  of  Ireland)

Teaching time:

6 lessons a day plus 3 hours of evening acitivities including films followed by a discussion, singing and learning Irish dances. A trip to the surroundings with a project task followed by a presentation.

Both courses are aimed at teaching culture and various ways of doing so. They are both practical and interactive. The participants will be teachers not only from the CR but also from neighbouring countries such as Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria and Germany. Thus English will be used widely also outside the class.  

Both courses have been accredited by the Czech Ministry of Education.    

Course A  (August 2 – 8, 2009)

Some most successful topics from previous courses will be repeated. 

Course content: 

Mike:  Ireland and Celts in Europe, Irish Music Past and Present, The Celtic Calendar and Folk Traditions, Colonisation of Ireland, Northern Ireland Problem, Women in Celtic Society, Images of Ireland and Resources.

Míša: Practical Intro to Ireland, Emigration – Irish Americans, Irish Food, Women in Modern Ireland, Irish Fairy Tales – a practical drama session followed by a performance, Irish Short Story Tradition.

Course B  (August 9 – 15, 2009)

Completely new topics will be presented.

Course content: 

Mike: Joyce, the man and his work, Ireland and the EU, Gaelic – How to Write it and Read it, Religion in Ireland (Once a Catholic..), Irish Comedy on TV, Geography of Ireland.

Míša: Practical Intro to Ireland, Detective Story Writers in Ireland of Today, Famine in History and Literature, Irish Fairy Tales – practical drama session followed by a performance, Children´s Books and Limericks, Sebastian Barry – musicals and novels.
